Volunteer Ireland is delighted to announce the 17th annual Volunteer Ireland Awards shortlist. Those shortlisted will be honoured at the national awards ceremony in Dublin in December, which celebrates the commitment and dedication of volunteers across Ireland.
With 33 nominees across 11 categories, the shortlist includes volunteers aged 20 to 75 and showcases the remarkable impact of volunteering across all sections of society.
Representing 14 counties, the work done by nominees encompasses everything from para sport to search and rescue to protecting the environment and showcases the key role played by volunteers in supporting our communities. For example:
Every year I continue to be inspired by the dedication of volunteers across Ireland. People with busy lives and commitments, taking the time to give back and help others and make a real difference in their communities. We are lucky to have volunteers like these making such an incredible contribution, and this shortlist is just a snapshot of what goes on across the country every day. It is an honour to recognise these volunteers and say thank you for all that they do.

The 2024 Volunteer Ireland Awards are made possible thanks to support from the Department of Rural and Community Development and award partner Healthy Ireland.
“I am so always impressed by the ongoing contribution made by volunteers across Ireland,” Minister of State at the Department of Health with special responsibility for Public Health, Wellbeing, and National Drugs Strategy Colm Burke, TD says.
“These annual awards are a great way of acknowledging the commitment and dedication of so many people who give freely of their time, skills and talents for the benefit of others and the enhancement of the wider community. I’m very proud that Healthy Ireland is associated with these awards and I want to thank all involved for giving their time to such a positive initiative.”
The 17th annual Volunteer Ireland Awards takes place on Sunday 8th December in the Carlton Hotel, Blanchardstown, Dublin.
Shortlisted nominees will be presented with their certificates before Volunteer Ireland announces the winners in each category and names Ireland’s Volunteer of the Year for 2024.
