50 artists with Irish connections supported through Nua Collective

By #Art

A new virtual experience called Nua Collective has been launched in light of the global pandemic. This collective is described as Ireland’s newest online experience which will play host to professional, practicing artists with Irish connections.

This immersive virtual gallery space had one primary objective, that is to create a sustainable space for artists to showcase their work, share their story with the world and earn a living.

“As galleries are operating behind closed doors, the physical interaction with artwork has ceased,” Eamonn B. Shanahan founder/artistic director of Nua Collective told me.

“I have always wanted to create a platform that gave artists an environment to thrive. While I hoped for physical collaborations, financial assistance proved difficult. In having to conform to a digital infrastructure due to Covid-19, this issue is dramatically reduced as all that we really needed was time”.

“More importantly, going forward into a post-pandemic society, having established this already thriving community of artists, we hope that creating the imagined physical community could be a reality. ”

50 visual artists are in the Nua Collective and they live or are linked to Ireland.

They represent 7 different nationalities and cover artistic pursuits such as painting, photography, sculpture, textiles, film and ceramics.

“Unlike other platforms and galleries, we are not charging a membership fee and will only take 15% commission from works sold through our platform ensuring that the primary beneficiary is the artist,” Eamonn says.

The Nua Collective experience will be open to the public from Friday, November 20th at 8pm with their first virtual exhibition launching on Thursday, November 26th, 2020.
