20+ video games you can play in the Irish language

Video games give people an outlet to let off steam or embark on an adventure. They allow us to explore countless worlds, battle alongside teammates and challenge our deepest emotions. But did you know that there are games that you can play in the Irish language?

It brings me great joy to share this list of video games available in the Irish language, and now just one, two or three! Even one game in particular is a whole collection of games you can play!

Note: Unfortunately, not all of these translations are great (this happens a lot in localisations). However for games with a good standard of Irish, I can vouch for Terry’s Other Games, Axyz, Among Us, VVVVVV, Lumo 2, Dicey Dungeons, Crowded. Followed, and If Found.

Crowded. Followed (2025)

You have the briefcase. Now it’s after you. It’s not going to stop. Be careful—it may take the form of someone else. A short horror game by NIGHT DIAL.

The Irish localisation of Crowded. Followed. was created by Úna-Minh Kavanagh (me), Seaghán Ó Modhráin, Davis Sandefur, Jake Dalzell and Brian Walshe and published in October 2025.

Lumo 2 (2025)

Step into the sequel to 2016’s arcade-adventure hit, Lumo. In this metroidvania journey, carve out your own path through handcrafted puzzle rooms, evolving mechanics, shifting perspectives, and delightful surprises. The Irish localisation for Lumo 2 was created by Úna-Minh Kavanagh (me), Seaghán Ó Modhráin and Brian Walshe.

Axyz (2025)

Axyz is a retro gravity switching puzzle game that asks the player to use their environmental and spatial awareness to beat every level. Soak in the vaporwave, switch gravity, collect tapes, and more in this tribute to 90s puzzle games. The Irish localisation was created by Úna-Minh Kavanagh (me), Seaghán Ó Modhráin and Brian Walshe. Terry’s Other Games (2025)

Terry’s Other Games is a super collection of 20+ short games Irish game designer Terry Cavanagh has made over the past 20 years. The collection was released in 2025, and you can get it on Steam and Itch! The Irish localisation was created by Úna-Minh Kavanagh (me), Seaghán Ó Modhráin, Davis Sandefur and Brian Walshe.

Among Us (2021)

I project-managed the Irish localisation team and, along with Brian C Mac Giolla Mhuire, Cormac Cinnsealach, Mike Drinkwater, Davis Sandefur, Seaghán Ó Modhráin and C Ó Cofaigh, we brought the translation to a global audience.

VVVVVV (2023)

VVVVVV is a 2010 puzzle platformer created by Irishman Terry Cavanagh and received its Irish language translation in 2023. The official Irish language translation was created by Úna-Minh Kavanagh (me), Seaghán Ó Modhráin and Davis Sandefur. Check it out here.

Minecraft

Minecraft is a game that has continued to grow in popularity and also has a pretty decent list of languages to choose from including Irish. The translation was done by an open-source group on CrowdIn, though there is a very important note on the language screen, which says the translations may not be 100% accurate. Irish is in the Java Edition of Minecraft.

Dicey Dungeons

I very briefly contributed to the testing of the Irish language version of Dicey Dungeons which was translated by the Ríomhacadamh. The game was created by Terry Cavanagh and is a roguelike, deck-building game with quick game mechanics and plenty of humour. Read more about Dicey Dungeons here.

PUBG

That’s right, the popular Battle Royale PUBG has an official Irish language translation as well. Brian C Mac Giolla Mhuire who worked on part of the Among Us project translated the online multiplayer. Find out more about the game and translation here.

If Found

If Found… is a visual novel developed by Dreamfeel. Set in Ireland, it’s a heartfelt one that’s full of emotion and one of the few that also has an Irish language version. The game has two interleaved stories which are told through erasing journal entries or images. This game was also translated by Ríomhacadamh and the Irish version is available on PC, Mac and Switch.

Factorio

Factorio is a game in which you build and maintain factories by mining resources, researching technologies, building infrastructure, automating production, and fighting enemies. It was also translated by Brian C Mac Giolla Mhuire.

Foundation

Foundation is a gridless and laid back medieval city-building game and was also translated by Brian C Mac Giolla Mhuire.

Dangerous Dave in the Deserted Pirate’s Hideout

Dangerous Dave is a 1988 computer game by John Romero.

“Irish was a natural choice for us since we are moving to Ireland. It felt necessary to include it, even. I was also raised to appreciate Irish culture and my Irish heritage. My great grandparents were Irish, and though the language didn’t pass to me, we understand the critical importance of keeping it alive.

Mini Metro

Mini Metro is a strategy simulation game where players design a subway map for a growing city. Its gameplay is simple but effective as you draw lines between stations to start your trains running. The system gets larger and larger as new stations open and players are encouraged to redraw lines to keep them efficient with limited resources.

Q Mac an Mheiriceánaigh did the Irish language translation.

Scrabble3D

Scrabble3D is a highly customisable Scrabble game that supports Classic Scrabble, Superscrabble, 3D games and your boards. You can play locally against the computer or connect to a game server to find other players. There is an Irish language file for download.

Dead Hungry Diner

From their store blurb: “Dead Hungry Diner is all about big combos, spells, monsters fighting monsters and finding your flow within the monstrous mayhem! Help Gabe and Gabby, patrons of “The Dead Hungry Diner”, as they feed the creatures of the night buckets and buckets of juicy Brain Berry goop!”

Dark Dawn

Dark Dawn is a visual novel (text-based) available in both Irish and English though it also has audio in both languages. This is a browser-based ‘literary game’ that is said to flesh out Fenian Cycle stories.

“Essentially, it’s the story of a sick warrior who’s convinced – against his better judgement – to try and save a tiny settlement,” says O’Sullivan.

“During the game, that warrior must make decisions – influenced by events in his own life – that can change the outcome. It’s a very simple story. A very human story.”

Gunman Taco Truck

Also developed by John Romero, this side-scrolling game has an in-built Irish language version.

Gunman Taco Truck is an action-packed drive across the post-apocalypse United States to reach the safe haven of Winnipeg, Canada, where there are no taco trucks and your family’s taco business can thrive. Getting to the safe towns is hectic but your truck is armed with weapons that blast mutants into tacos
