For those who want something to listen to while they’re out and about or just want something to tune into while they’re at home, Irish podcasts are the way to go.

We’re absolutely spoiled for choice in this wee country and so here’s just a taster of some top Irish podcasts that you can tune into today and listen back to at your leisure.

Note: Some of these podcasts haven’t been updated for a while however many have a massive backlog of episodes that will keep you occupied.

1. Beo Ar Éigean

Presented by Siún Ní Dhuinn, Áine Ní Bhreisleáin and Sinéad Ní Uallacháin this is a podcast from three intelligent and funny women, each with her own unique style.

Showcasing the Irish language in a modern, fresh approach, they all use it naturally and incorporate it seamlessly into every sort of topic. Listen back on the show here.

2. Glow West

This is a podcast by Dr. Caroline West that focuses on sexual wellness and covers everything like sex, sexuality, and the body. Available on all podcast platforms, Caroline and guests talk about all the topics that perhaps you were too shy to discuss or Google yourself. Find out more here.

3. The Tommy, Hector & Laurita Podcast

Pure conversation, funny and carefree. Join Tommy Tiernan, Hector Ó hEochagáin and Laurita Blewitt as they sit around and have a good natter. Listen here.

4. Mothers of Invention

Comedian Maeve Higgins and our former President Mary Robinson are the unexpected duo in this fascinating podcast about feminism, climate change and saving the planet. Featuring mostly women from around the world, learn how to cope, empower and enact change through the eyes of extraordinary women driving climate innovation.

5. The Irish History Podcast

This is an extremely accessible history podcast hosted by historian Fin Dwyer. Discover more on his website here. Topics are varied and always fascinating as Fin reveals aspects of history from things like the Great Famine to witches and witchcraft, medieval life to Peig’s background. For history buffs, this is a must.

6. Afra-Éire

Hosted by Ola Majekodunmi through Raidió na Life, this is a brilliant Irish-language show about the connections between Ireland and Africa. Her wonderful podcast covers everything from African music to interviews with people with a unique connection to Africa like Ayo Arogundade, Caoimhe de Barra, Alan Titley and Sorcha Pollack. 7. Grief Encounters

Dealing with death doesn’t sound like your typical podcast affair nor easy listening but this is a really insightful podcast by Sasha Hamrogue and Venetia Quick that’s worth a go.

Focussing on life after death, their Irish podcasts have won them an army of fans and both have experienced huge loss in their lives. Sasha’s parents and Venetia’s husband died from cancer and in the podcast, they touch on everything like the practicalities of what to do after death and how to support grieving friends. If you’re dealing with grief or want to lend your support to someone who is, this really is essential listening. Find out more here.

8. The Blindboy Podcast

Hosted by Blindboy of the Rubberbandits this is an unpredictable and eclectic podcast containing short fiction, interviews, and comedy.

9. The Echo Chamber Podcast

Hosted by Martin McMahon and Tony Groves, this Irish podcast covers independent news, politics, and culture. Talking about the many problems that are facing us in society today, Tony and Martin (quite often with guests) talk about real solutions and do their best to set records straight.
