First TG4 Archivist announced

As TG4 celebrates 25 years on the air, they are looking to increase public access to the station’s digital archive with the announcement of the first TG4 Archivist.

As a custodian of the Irish language Linguistic Assets broadcasting legacy, The TG4 archive contains a valuable and varied repository of material.

The development of the digital archive will continue in 2022, work that has been ongoing since the end of 2011. When complete, TG4’s Irish Language Digital Archive will be one of the most extensive and significant bodies of Irish language audio-visual material in the world.

Máire Aoibhinn Ní Ógáin has been appointed as the first TG4 Archivist.

Máire Aoibhinn has expertise in TG4’s programme content in her role as TG4 Schedule Manager for over 20 years.

She has previously pioneered archive developments and schemes with the support of the BAI. She will build on that experience and advance technological and curated developments in the digital archive. She will start her new role as TG4 Archivist on February 1st, 2022.

“Is pribhléid dom an ról nua seo i mo Chartlannaí TG4 a ghlacadh. Is taifead tábhachtach é Cartlann TG4 ar stair na hÉireann agus is foinse eolais í an chartlann sin a léiríonn forbairt na Gaeilge agus oidhreacht chraoltóireachta na hÉireann.

Ní mór a chinntiú go mbeidh rochtain ar an saibhreas staire, faisnéise, ceoil agus siamsaíochta atá sa chartlann chun go mbeidh an t-ábhar seo coimeádaithe agus caomhnaithe ionas go mbeidh sé ar fáil chun staidéar a dhéanamh air agus chun taitneamh a bhaint as.

Beidh sé ina sprioc agam teacht ar bhealaí nua chun an chartlann a úsáid mar acmhainn staire agus chruthaitheach, chun comhpháirtithe náisiúnta agus idirnáisiúnta a cothú le Cartlann TG4 agus chun tábhacht na gcartlann teilifíse i gcoitinne a cur chun cinn. Táim ag súil tabhairt go fonnmhar faoin ról nua seo leis an dúthracht agus díograis chéanna atá léirithe agam le fiche cúig bliain anuas le linn mo sheirbhíse go dtí seo le TG4 agus é mar aidhm agam an méid atá bainte amach agam i leith sceideal TG4 a thabhairt chun críche sa Chartlann.
