This July 4th 2024 Waterford Treasures will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a special Viking Party.

25 years ago Waterford Treasures Museums opened its doors for the first time through the vision of Eamonn McEneaney. In the intervening years, the museum has evolved to include a collection of six museums in the city’s Viking Triangle welcoming visitors from all over the world every year.

At the event, visitors can immerse themselves in all things Viking with exciting activities in their Medieval Museum.

The Waterford Treasures Museum collection now includes The Bishop’s Palace, the Medieval Museum, The Irish Silver Museum, The Irish Museum of Time, the Irish Wake Museum, The Epic Walking Tour, and the ever-popular King of the Vikings Virtual Reality Adventure, plus Reginald’s Tower.

As it celebrates its 25th anniversary, the museum’s success can be seen in the number of visitors it draws, over 100,000 each year on average.

Waterford Treasures’ greatest impact is probably the effect it has had on Ireland’s oldest city. Six museums now have a home in the City’s Viking Triangle; almost all of the city’s six museums were part of a programme of urban renewal and are housed within historically significant buildings in the centre of the oldest quarter of the city.

A special limited-edition coin has been created to commemorate the occasion. Visitors can purchase the 25th-anniversary coin from the Medieval Museum. Further details on the Viking Party here.
